I love a good sweat. Whether it’s a hot yoga class, a heavy lift, or a long stretch in the sauna, there’s nothing that purifies my body like a good, cleansing sweat.

The only problem with my love of sweating is the toll it takes on my hair.

My hair is just past my hips, so washing it after every workout really isn’t feasible. Not only does it take me over an hour to wash my hair, but frequent shampooing tends to leave my strands feeling dry, brittle, and frizzy — especially during these cold, dry winter months.

As an alternative to daily shampooing, I resorted to just keeping my hair tied up in a bun or braid most days. If that sounds gross to you, you might be surprised to learn that washing your hair every day isn’t actually that good for it, so this has been the best alternative up until now.

However, I recently discovered something called Co-Wash from the brand Geologie. It’s a unique formula that isn't shampoo, conditioner, or 2-in-1, but better. It’s a powerful blend of hair-smoothing ingredients like coconut oil, avocado oil, squalane, hydrolyzed rice protein, and vitamin B5 that delivers everything your scalp and hair need in one single formula.

It’s designed to gently cleanse your hair and nourish your scalp at the same time, preventing you from stripping away your hair’s healthy natural oils. This is especially beneficial if you’re prone to a dry scalp or hair.

My favorite part about Geologie’s Co-Wash is that it’s specifically designed to break your hair’s oil cycle, extending the time between washes. This means that if you’d normally need to wash your hair daily, or every other day, you can push your regular washes to every two to three days, or even further depending on your hair.

This is great news if you’re like me and either don’t have the time to wash your hair after every workout, or don’t like the way daily shampooing makes your hair look and feel.

Everyone’s hair is different, so you’ll need to experiment with what works best for you when switching to the Co-Wash. You’ll also want to make sure you’re choosing the right formula for your particular hair needs. Geologie’s Co-Wash is available in two different blends: a smoothing formula and a cooling formula. The smoothing formula is best for people with curly or wavy hair, as it results in less frizz and allows for your curls to stay hydrated and more manageable. The cooling formula is great if you have thinner hair that’s more prone to getting oily. If you’re not sure which will work best for you, you can try out the Party Pack which includes one of each blend.

Both formulas contain zero harsh detergents and chemicals that can weigh down your hair and prompt you to wash it even more frequently, meaning you’ll be able to reduce your scalp’s oil production while simultaneously getting lighter, more voluminous hair.

To use the Co-Wash, simply lather and apply just like you would a shampoo. Massage it into your scalp, and let it sit for a minute or so to nourish your scalp and allow your hair to drink in the moisture. Then rinse to reveal shiny, soft, manageable hair.

From here, you can customize your hair care routine and discover what works best for you. I personally love that the Co-Wash helps extend the time between my washes, but both formulas can be used daily if you prefer to lather up more frequently.

However you choose to care for your scalp and strands, Geologie’s Co-Wash is formulated to put you in control of your hair. You can combine products and use them as frequently as you see fit to maintain soft, smooth, manageable hair that works even with your active lifestyle.
